A rare Thea Porter black and multicoloured floral silk child’s dress, 1970s A rare Thea Porter black and multicoloured floral silk child’s dress, 1970s unlabelled, of tightly-pleated black gauze woven with purple, pink, orange, blue and silver threads depicting floral motifs, large Pierrot collar and hem trimmed with silver lamé, chest 56 cm, 22in The collection of the late Lamorna Seale, sister-in-law to Thea Porter. The consigner of this dress remembers, ’This dress was a bridesmaid’s dress worn by my sister Delilah for one of Thea’s fashion shows. She walked down the aisle with one of the models who was in a white wedding gown.’ Share this lot:

A fine Thea Porter ’Samawa’ printed silk satin dress, probably Autumn-Winter 1970-71 A fine Thea Porter ’Samawa’ printed silk satin dress, probably Autumn-Winter 1970-71 couture labelled, printed with multicoloured geometric purple, orange and blue repeats and ’Thea Porter’ signatures, V-neck bodice with smocking, wide bell-sleeves, wide waistband with waist tie, two-tiered maxi-length skirt, bust 82cm, 32in The collection of the late Lamorna Seale, author and sister-in-law to Thea Porter. Exhibition History: ’Thea Porter: 70’s Bohemian Chic’ at The Fashion and Textile Museum, 2015 The ’Samawa’ print was designed by artist Sandra Munro and was based on the Samawa carpets of southern Iraq. Porter used these crewel-embroidered rugs to craft coats for her Autumn/Winter 1970-71 collection and commissioned Sandra Munro to design a pattern based on the embroidered textiles. This dress was worn by Lamorna Seale at her 1972 wedding to Thea Porter’s brother, Patrick Seale.
