A commemorative ’suffragette’ dress, American, circa 1970, in loose Edwardian style with V-shaped waist and flounced hem, the cotton print incorporating Suffragette slogans from 1900-1920, bust 92cm, 36in. In 1920 with the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment - women were for the first time given the right to vote across the whole of the United States. This dress is a feminist commemoration of that moment - probably made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legislation.
