Notes:
Born in Miyazaki, Japan, Yuki Torimaru (also known as Gnyuki) studied architecture before training as a textile engineer, a dual foundation that profoundly shaped his approach to fashion. He moved to London in 1964 and attended the London College of Fashion, graduating in 1966, before gaining valuable experience working for several major fashion houses, including Pierre Cardin. In 1972, he launched his own designer label with a collection for Harvey Nichols, establishing a reputation for technically sophisticated garments distinguished by dramatic cuts and architectural construction. His designs frequently employed panels cut on a full circle, creating garments of exceptional volume, fluidity and luxurious drape, reflecting a refined synthesis of engineering precision and sculptural elegance.
