Ramon Valera (1912-1972) was sometimes referred to as the `Dior of the Philippines’. He took the traditional long Philippino dress or `terno’ with `butterfly’ sleeves and transformed it into glittering, luxurious evening wear, favoured by women such as Imelda Marcos.
