the red cotton t-shirt printed with stars and ’Magical Mystery Tour 1976’ to front and ’Roll Up Roll Up’ printed to the reverse, Marshall Lester labelled, bust 86cm 34in; the trousers printed with orange and brown paisley motifs, with white fringing to side seams, unlabelled, waist 71cm 28in (2)
The previous owner of this ensemble recalls that the t-shirt was made for the re-release of The Beatles ’Magical Mystery Tour’ in November 1976. She writes, ’My friend John Gould was head of Promotions at EMI . He invited me on the ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ to celebrate the re release of the album. They hired a coach for EMI staff and friends we were given the t shirts to wear. We had beverages and the music from the album playing and left Manchester Square not knowing where we were going! It was fun and exciting we ended up at a stage at Shepperton Studios to continue the party then we were driven back to EMI. One of the most fun evenings ever!’
