 68\n\nA rare Beatles’ Apple boutique ensemble\, 1967-68\n\nwoven apple l
ogo label\, of pink and blue damask woven with silver lamé patterns\, the
V-neck vest/top with a silver ring to the centre\, trimmed with gold gimp
trim\, bust 91cm 36in\; the matching cropped wide legged trousers with a
blue and gold waistband and trim\, waist 71cm 28in (2)\n\nThe Apple boutiq
ue opened on 94 Baker Street in December 1967 and closed just 7 months lat
er in July 1968\, having lost more than £100\,000 in trading during that
time. The night before the shop closed\, the Beatles selected pieces for t
hemselves to wear and the next morning opened the doors to crowds massing
outside and\, in true hippie spirit\, told the waiting public to just help
themselves to the rest. Paul McCartney said of it: ’The nice thing was
that we weren’t too fussed when it didn’t work out [...] It was great:
giving the clothes to people who showed up on the day’ (The Beatles Ant
 hology\, Cassell & Co\, 2000\, p.296).\n\nShare this lot:
