A Tommy Nutter morning suit and special order Zandra Rhodes bridal gown, 1973
labelled, the gown with a sleeveless bodice and a full, double-layered pleated organza skirt, the wide hem heat-set with mock smocking, the over-bodice with cape sleeves, each sleeve with heat-set mock smocking and wide pleats trimmed with white faux pearls, attached to a quilted satin panel at the front and back, waist 61cm 24in; with two tulle veils; together with a bespoke Tommy Nutter morning suit, comprising: a navy blue wool tailcoat with wide lapels, unlabelled, chest 91cm 36in; a pair of grey and blue striped wool trousers, unlabelled, waist 71cm 28in; a grey wool waistcoat, Nutter labelled; a white cotton tuxedo shirt, AKCO labelled, and a wide white satin bow tie (8)
Provenance: Lady Linda Vane Percy
The wedding gown was worn by Lady Linda Vane Percy for her marriage to Sir Christopher Vane Percy in 1973, who wore the Tommy Nutter suit.
Both ensembles were exhibited side by side in the ‘Tommy Nutter: Rebel on The Row’ Exhibition at The Fashion & Textile Museum, 20 May – 22 October 2011.
