Sotheby’s is proud to offer this 2004 Ryder Cup Flag signed by the winning team, commemorating a historic and hard-fought edition of golf’s premier team competition.
Held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the 2004 Ryder Cup featured a historic battle between Team Europe and Team USA, played over three days of foursomes, four-balls, and singles matches.
Europe emerged victorious in convincing fashion, winning 18½–9½, under the leadership of captain Bernhard Langer and standout performances from players such as Sergio García, Colin Montgomerie, and Pádraig Harrington, delivering a commanding and decisive team effort. The triumph at Oakland Hills was celebrated not only for its margin, a record for Europe’s largest to date over the U.S., but also for the display of strategy, skill, and cohesion that allowed Europe to retain the Cup on American soil, adding a memorable chapter to Ryder Cup history. The lot is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures. This flag has been signed by Colin Montgomerie, Paul McGinley, Thomas Levet, Darren Clarke, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Lee Westwood, David Howell, Pádraig Harrington, Sergio García, Luke Donald, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, and Captain Bernhard Langer.
