The reference 116509 belongs to the generation of Cosmograph Daytona models equipped with Rolex’s first fully in house automatic chronograph movement, the calibre 4130. Introduced in 2000, the calibre 4130 brought a notably improved 72 hour power reserve and quickly became the benchmark for the modern Daytona.
The present example is crafted entirely in 18k white gold and reflects an important detail of the post 2000 Daytona design language. From this generation onwards, the dial furniture and hands are executed in 18k gold, both for longevity and as a discreet signifier of quality.
Balancing motorsport character with precious metal presence, this watch is further distinguished by its Arabic numeral dial, a more overtly racing inspired configuration when compared with the classic baton hour markers. The result is a Daytona that remains unmistakably sporting, while offering a more exclusive and luxurious expression of the model.
