Description du catalogue

Liberty of London Lamé Satin Opera Cape, mid-1920s

Dimensions:

All measurements are approximate.

Founded in 1875 by entrepreneur Arthur Lasenby Liberty and described by Oscar Wilde as ’the chosen resort of the artistic shopper’, Liberty department store has remained a premiere shopping destination for well over 100 years - still standing in the original and iconic Tudor-revival building on Regent St. in London. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the store’s collection of objets d’art from around the world and luxurious fabrics were so successfully received that the Liberty aesthetic significantly impacted interior design and dress of the time. So much so that, the Art Nouveau period in Italy is called ’Liberty Style’.
